Happy Souper Bowl Sunday!
No, that's not a typo! Today I'm sharing some stellar soup recipes & serving you some soupy memes 🤠
I only know that the Chiefs are in the Super Bowl this year because the internet won’t shut up about the Tralor1 romance and CNN is writing articles about whether or not Taylor Swift will make it to the prestigious game.2 I couldn’t tell you who the Chiefs are playing.
I simply do not give a fuck about sports.
What I do care about is SOUP! It’s the perfect meal on a cold winter’s day! You can make a big pot of it and feed yourself for a week! You can pair it with a salad or pair it with a delicious carb! Soup is the best! And that’s why I’m sharing two tried & true recipes that have been a hit at Casa de JoBen3 plus a few others that have been stewing4 in my brain that I want to make soon.
Let’s get into it!
SOUP RECIPES THAT HAVE MY STAMP OF APPROVAL
Creamy Tortellini Soup with Sausage & Kale: I bought The Modern Proper Cook Book on mega-sale about a month ago and this was the first recipe I made from it. I’ve since made it at least five times because it’s SO delicious and SO easy to make! I usually make a double-batch with a few modifications: I use 1 pound hot Italian pork sausage & 1 pound of Italian turkey sausage, frozen kale, & half the amount of heavy cream. *chef’s kiss* It’s on the menu for this week and I am STOKED.
Pinto Bean & Poblano Soup: One of my favorite activities to do when I want to relax is flip through magazines. It reminds me of my childhood when I’d spend hours sifting through my Grandma Joyce’s copies of Woman’s World and Taste of Home. Ahh, so peaceful! Recently I started checking out e-magazines through my local library via the Libby app and I discovered that Good Housekeeping is stacked with recipes! Ben was realllllly skeptical when I first made this pinto bean soup, but was hooked after one bite. I made it for friends who also raved about it & requested the recipe. I personally love it because it’s cost efficient, delicious, and meatless! I like to top mine with Mexican rice, queso fresco, pickled onions, and pickled jalapeños. Also recommending serving with some tortilla chips so you can dip your heart out! MMMMMM SO GOOD!
RECIPES THAT I WANT TO MAKE SOON!
Creamy Broccoli Soup with Roasted Garlic: This recipe is from the previously mentioned Modern Proper cookbook. Roasted garlic? Say no more! I couldn’t find the exact recipe, but here is a similar one that I found on The Modern Proper website.
Braised Ginger Meatballs in Coconut Broth: This is a Smitten Kitchen recipe that was shared in a recent edition of the newsletter
. This soup seems like an easy dish to make and the flavor profile sounds divine!Tomato Rice Soup with Caramelized Onion: A recipe made out of pantry staples? Sign me up! I found this recipe in a Milk Street cookbook I checked out from the library. While searching for it online, I found you can sign up for digital access to all Milk Street recipes here.
Chickpea, Chorizo, & Spinach Soup: Another recipe that I found in a Milk Street cookbook that I checked out from the library 😎 It sounds like a simple but flavorful soup!
And now, the real reason you are here—-SOUP MEMES!!!
Yay soup!!!!!

Travis + Taylor = Tralor; I coined it myself just now.
Why is this considered “news”? There are at least a million other things they should be reporting on.
Since I didn’t take Ben’s last name when we got married, this is how I refer to our household. A friend coined us JoBen when we first started dating over a decade ago and the name has stuck.
Yes the soup wordplay was intentional. I couldn’t help myself.
I'm still in the mood for soup! Thanks for sharing these recipes.
